You've eloped and it’s now time to party (or you're planning on eloping and want to plan something for when you get back). Just because you didn’t say I do in front of a gazillion people, doesn’t mean you can’t host a reception for family and friends. We've put together a collection of seven ideas to help you host the world’s best post-elopement party!

7 Awesome Ideas for Your Post-Elopement Party

Love is in the air and it’s time to share it with the world or just a few people. A post-elopement party is just like a wedding reception, with the key difference being that the ceremony happened on an earlier day. This means if you want a sit down formal meal with a seating plan, you can. Likewise, you can have afternoon tea in the garden, or a BBQ at the beach.

If you've got a theme in mind, neat. If not, never fear because here are seven ideas to get you thinking.

  • Pot luck - if finances are tight, ask your guests to come with a plate rather than a gift. Hire a local community hall or put a marquee up in your backyard, play your favourite tunes on the iPad and string some fairy lights around for a magical time.
  • Colour theme - ask your guests to wear something which is in your chosen colour theme. Why decorate the venue, when your guests can do it for you with their clothing!
  • Dessert themed - if you've got a sweet tooth, then a dessert party will be right up your alley! From doughnut walls to sweet jars, iced cupcakes and decorated biscuits, the options are endless - and delicious.
  • Star Wars - a fan of the Dark Side or a Jedi in training? Then why not incorporate your love of the force into your post-elopement party!
  • Food truck - forget about organising a caterer to serve your guests a sit-down meal and choose a food truck provider instead. They'll come to your venue and guests order from the truck themselves.
  • Glamping - head out to the bush and go glamping with your guests, either for the day or overnight. There are plenty of companies who will set up and stage a campsite, with your part of the job just being to show up.
  • Party bus - hire a bus for the evening and let the driver take you and your guests for a ride you'll never forget. You could choose the itinerary or let them pick for some mystery.
